4. Playing Rules

Playing Mode

During the pilot period, playing mode is governed as follows:

  1. Matches are to be played as best of seven games (first one to 4 games with at least one break of serve, e.g. 4-2 or 4-1);

  2. If tied at 4 – 4 then a tie break will be played; if the 45 minutes period is over and others are waiting for the court then spin racket or toss coin to select the winner;

  3. Playing time is 45 minutes during singles equal priority time on the club’s court schedule. Play time to be arranged between the players;

  4. Players must agree on the final score and enter the score onto the web site; failure to agree on the score means game and result are not eligible and the match must be replayed;

  5. A player arriving more than ten minutes after the agreed time to meet loses the match by default, unless it is agreed by both players to reschedule;

  6. If the 45-minutes time limit is reached and an insufficient number of games have been played, players may continue the match as long as there are no other players waiting for the court. Otherwise the match may be suspended and continued at a later time.

Challenging Rules

During the pilot period, these rules regulate challenges between members of the ladder:

  1. You may issue 1 challenge at a time;

  2. You can only be challenged by one player at any given time. This prevents outstanding challenges from accumulating against you;

  3. You may challenge up to 3 spots above you in the ladder;

  4. If the challenge is successful, you will take the spot of the person you challenged and your opponent will be bumped down 1 spot;

  5. If you hold a wildcard, you may challenge anyone above you;

  6. An additional wildcard will be granted after 1 matches have been played;

  7. If challenged, you will have 3 days to "Accept" or "Deny" the challenge or the challenge will be considered a "forfeit" and the challenger will be granted the win;

  8. By accepting a challenge, you agree to play the challenge within 7 days of the date of acceptance;

  9. If you cannot play within 7 days, simply "Deny" the challenge and the challenger will be rewarded the win and can move on;

  10. If a challenge is accepted and not played within 7 days, it will expire and the challenge will be deleted from the system and will have to be re-issued. Of course, since rankings continually change, a re-challenge may not be possible.

Ranking

In the initial pilot program, a Bump Rank method will be used. Suppose Joe is ranked #16 and he challenges Tom who is ranked #2. If Joe wins, he will become #2, and Tom will become #3. If Joe loses both players stay where they are.
